Athletics
2017 Athletics
I showed a growth mindset when in the high jump because when I jumped I kept knocking off the bar, even though when I didn’t manage to jump as high as last year I didn’t get angry.
I did not manage to achieve my athletics goals because I had not had much of a chance to practice at school.
I represented my house by showing my CARE Values and trying my best.
I did well in discuss because I came fourth when I did not think I would come fourth place.
The high jump was challenging because I had never managed to jump 1.5 metres and they were going up in tens which was hard because ten centimeters was quite of big height difference.
I am proud of coming fourth in discus and that I did not come last in my race because I was versing some good runners.

Moment in time The Old Rail Road
The old rail road
I was walking on a over grown track in a dense forest. Below me I feel the ground slipping out from beneath my feet. I slip off the track into the bushes and trees.
When I come to a stop I open my eyes and see an old train track, it has got moss all over it.The rusty bolts look like they're about to fall on to the ground.
I wonder where does it go? Will it lead me out of the forest I hope so.
All of a sudden I start feeling hungry, I look around me I see a blackberry bush. I run over and pick some blackberries. I taste the sweet juice trickle down my throat.
I start walking down the railway line. After walking for about 15 minutes I come to a clearing, there is a road. I am extremely lucky because after about an hour I hear the buzz of a car's engine. I stand in the middle of the road and signal for the car to stop. I ask them if I can a lift to the nearest village. They say yes. Very soon we come to a village, I thank the people and get out of the car.

Creatures of the deep
WALT we are learning to write a moment in time
Creatures of the deep
Woosh, I fall off the boat and into the swirling, deep, dark and terrifying waters I feel suddenly extremely cold. I need to get to the boat! I try swim to the surface but the suction is extremely strong.
Then suddenly, one of the octopus’s long arms come up from beneath me and I fly out of the water and into the air. A
aaahh I am rapidly falling downwards. I hear the octopus’s arms thrashing against the water.
I wonder to myself am I going to get out of the water alive.
Then from above I hear a chopper flying over the water. I try to keep my head above the water so that the helicopter can see me.
I see something being lowered out of the helicopter. I grab onto it and I get hauled in. I thank the people on board. I am so happy I made it out of the water alive.

What do you need to research?
The big question: WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH PLASTIC?
- What is plastic?
Plastic is a material that is synthetic and made from a wide range of organic polymers. It is made from petrochemicals which are fossil fuels eg coal, oil.
- Why is it a problem for the environment?
Plastic is a problem for the environment because it is ruining our seas, oceans and wildlife and if wildlife from the sea die we won’t have as much food. The reason plastic is a problem is because it does not break down.
3.What facts can you find about the amount of plastic we use, how it is made, how it breaks down?
The average amount of time for plastic to break down is 450 years.
The amount of petroleum used to make one plastic bag can drive a car 115 metres. World wide it is estimated that four billion plastic bags end up as litter each year if tied together could circle the world sixty-three times.
4.What can you do to help?
I can Reduce by buying one big pack of chips not lot’s of small bags. I can Reuse plastic bags and I can recycle thing that could get reused.
5. Glossary
- microbead A small particle of plastic, usually between 0.05 millimeters and 5 millimeters in size (or one hundredth of an inch to about two tenths of an inch). These particles can be found in exfoliating face wash, but can also take the form of fibers shed from clothing.
- plastiglomerate A name some scientists have proposed for a category of rock created when plastic melts and fuses with chunks of stone, shell or other materials to create a long-lasting record of human pollution.
- polyethylene A plastic made from chemicals that have been refined (produced from) crude oil and/or natural gas. The most common plastic in the world, it is flexible and tough. It also can resist radiation.
- zooplankton Small organisms that drift in the sea. Zooplankton are tiny animals that eat other plankton. They also serve as an important food source for other marine creatures.
- pollutant A substance that taints something — such as the air, water, our bodies or products. Some pollutants are chemicals, such as pesticides. Others may be radiation, including excess heat or light. Even weeds and other invasive species can be considered a type of biological pollution.
- oceanography The branch of science that deals with the physical and biological properties and phenomena of the oceans. People who work in this field are known as oceanographer
